A right pinch of salt is as important for a delicious dish as a good designer for objects. In the last two years the polyurethane foam was our most important material making our ideas real, dusted air our daily oxygen, the crunchy sound eating a sandwich quite familiar… Most of us (some happy, others with sad eyes and a big piece of foam in their hands) are looking into a future of virtual 3D sketches in a very clean and dust-free workplace. ¡SAL! should remember us from where we come from and at the same time help us putting the right ingredients in our upcoming designs.

The foam-dust-cellar consists of a off-the-shelf recipient in four different kind of colors and a special designed polyurethane lid painted in another six colors. A simple sticker with the message: ¡SAL!UD AMOR DISEÑO inspired in the spanish “cheers” (¡Salud, amor y dinero!=Health, love & money!) serves as a seal. All of the foam-dust-cellars contain the same ingredient and best wishes for the future, but the colors make each of them unique just as everyone in our class is. (more…)

Skipping through old sketchbooks, I found this project: back in the days, studying in Vienna; our teacher had the idea to let us (photography and graphicdesign students) play for three days “landscape artists” in a small village in the west of Austria. With all the “Green”DesignHype* right at the moment, I may post it… Mirando proyectos antiguos, me he encontrado con ese pequeño tesoro… Cuando estudiaba en Viena, mis profesores tenían la “gran” idea de que por tres días todos (estudiantes de diseñadores grafico y/o fotografia) nos pongamos el papel de artistas…

We’ve redesigned the menu of the BAR fidel. This nice, cosy, little bar, placed in the historic core of Barcelona, is famous for its sandwiches ( with “pa amb tomàquet”, of course) . The many hours spent near the square tiles, with a delicious sandwich in our hands, helped us to get the idea for the grid we used in the design. Bon appetit! Hemos rediseñado la carta del BAR fidel. Este pequeño y acogedor bar del centro de Barcelona es famoso desde hace muchos años por sus bocadillos (amb pa amb tomàquet, és clar!). Hemos pasado tantas horas junto a esas baldosas con un suculento bocata en la mano… que la idea para el diseño podemos decir que salió de la pared. Buen provecho! (more…)

The book ”El contador de cuentos” has been awarded with the Junceda Prize of Illustration 2009, in the category Fiction Book for Children! The Junceda Prize of Illustration is conferred each year by APIC (Professional Association of Catalonian Illustrators), and awards, in 14 different categories, the work of illustrators living in Catalonia. This Prize makes me very proud because is given by colleagues, and because is shared with many others. My congratulation to the rest of prizewinners! Meritxell Duran created the trophy, an elephant with a pencil trunk. El libro “El contador de cuentos” ha recibido uno de los Premios Junceda 2009 de Ilustración, que fueron entregados anoche. Estos premios los concede la APIC (Asociación Profesional de Ilustradores de Cataluña) cada año y pretenden dar a conocer el trabajo de ilustradores e ilustradoras residentes en Cataluña. Cuenta con 14 categorías diferentes, entre las cuales encontramos la de libro infantil de ficción, que es la categoría en la que hemos ganado!!!!! Este premio me llena de especial orgullo al ser otorgado por compañeros de profesión, y porque es compartido por muchos colegas, que han sido premiados en el resto de categorías. Enhorabuena a todos! El trofeo, un elefante con trompa dibujante, ha sido diseñado por Meritxell Duran.

CLIJ magazine is one of the most important specialized publications about children’s and young adults literature in Spain. Each month a different illustrator is chosen to illustrate the cover and some articles. This May I am the illustrator of the month! La revista CLIJ (Cuadernos de literatura infantil y juvenil) es una de las publicaciones más importantes en su campo en España. Cada mes escogen un ilustrador para la portada y para realizar algunas ilustraciones interiores, a la vez que publican un pequeño artículo sobre el ilustrador en cuestión.
